After Years Of Practice, There May Still Be More to Understand About the Yoga You Know So Well.
You know the Dialogue.
You know the Sequence.
You hear instructions you've heard hundreds—maybe thousands—of times.
And then one day, you hear something differently.
Something you've heard before suddenly makes more sense.
That's the beauty of this Yoga, there’s always more to understand and more to explore.
But hearing something differently and understanding what’s behind it are two different things.

Does Practice Progress Mean Going Farther?
Jim tells the story of a woman who had been Practicing Bikram Yoga for 20 years.
In Wind Removing Pose, she could already bring her knee all the way to her shoulder.
So what should she work on next?
Go farther?
Pull harder?
Find some way to improve the Posture?
Jim's answer came from something Bikram had taught him:
“Achieving is the easy part. Maintaining is the hard part.”
She didn't need to keep trying to get more from that Posture.
She needed to just keep practicing what she’s doing in that Posture and focus more on other Postures that required her attention.
Because progress isn't always about going farther.
Sometimes it's understanding what needs your attention now.
This Source Knowledge Was Never Preserved in One Place
Bikram taught in the room.
Through the Dialogue, Official Teacher Trainings, Posture Clinics, stories, observations, demonstrations and individual moments with students and teachers.
Much of what was learned depended upon being there to hear it.
And when knowledge is passed from person-to-person-to-person…over decades, details and context disappear.
Source Knowledge can be lost without anyone intending to lose it.
After more than 30 years close to Bikram, Jim came to realize how much had never been comprehensively and cohesively documented.
That's part of why Exploration of Bikram's Beginning Yoga Postures exists.
To preserve the knowledge while it can still be preserved from as close to the Source as possible.
Jim Didn't Just Study Bikram Yoga. He Studied With Bikram.
Jim Kallett attended his first Official Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 1997.
Then he kept going back.
He eventually served as Senior Faculty at more than 50 Official Bikram Yoga Teacher Trainings and was told by Bikram to teach Posture Clinics and Seminars worldwide.
He spent decades observing, practicing and learning directly from Bikram.
And Jim paid attention to the stories, the explanations and the details.
Why one instruction came before another.
Why what Bikram told one student wasn't necessarily what he told another student.
How every individual Posture fits into the Practice as a whole.
That accumulated Source Knowledge is what Jim is preserving in Exploration.
Experienced Practitioners May Be Ready To Explore More of the Yoga
Kay Afif has been Practicing Bikram Yoga for nearly 21 years.
She's a Certified Teacher.
She's owned two studios.
She still listens to Jim's Exploration.
“I'm learning new tidbits that I can use to help my students.”
She listens, takes what she learns into class, then comes back and listens again.
Jason McCullough had been Practicing for eight years.
Multiple teachers. Multiple studios.
Thousands of repetitions of the Dialogue.
As he listened, Jason would hear an observation he had never heard before.
His reaction:
“Oh wow, that makes so much sense.”
He finished all the Exploration videos.
Then decided he needed to go through it again—with a pen and paper.
Listen. Practice. Notice. Return.
There are 18+ hours of Source Knowledge inside Exploration of Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Postures.
That doesn't mean you need to sit down and consume all of it.
Pick one Posture to start.
Listen to Jim's Exploration.
Go to class and Practice.
Notice what you hear differently and what you’re asking your body to do.
Then come back to the Source Knowledge.
That's essentially how Kay uses Exploration.
Exploration of Bikram's Beginning Yoga Postures isn't something you need to complete.
It's something you keep returning to as your Practice continues.
